Located in the eastern part of India, Orissa is bounder to the north by the state of Jharkhand, West Bengal falls on the west, while Bay of Bengal lies in its east. Andhra Pradesh and Chattisgarh is placed to its southern frontier.
The State of Orissa lies along eastern part of India. The state is popularly known as the "Black Pagoda" or "The state of Temples". The main attraction of Orissa are the temples, beaches, mountain, and the tribal people and their culture. The state is predominantly rural with fertile green plains along the coast rising up to the hills of the eastern parts.
Orissa is the land of Oriya, was known as "Utkal" and Later "Kalinga" in ancient ages. Ashoka conquered it in 261 B.C. with the horrible bloodshed, which converted into him a pacifist and a Buddhist Monk. On his death, Kalinga declared his freedom and rose great heights under Kharavela. It came to be ruled by the Hindu dynasty until its conquest by the Muslims in 1592. Ali Vardi Khan, Nawab of West Bengal ceded it to the Maratha in 1751 from whom the East India Company take over it on 1803. In 1803, a board of two commissioner appointed administrate the province, but in 1805, it was designated the district of Cuttack and was place in changes of a Collector, Judge and Magistrate.
In 1829, it was split up into three regulatory districts of Cuttack, Balasore and Puri. Orissa was constituted as a separate province on April 01, 1936. The rulers of 25 states surrendered all jurisdiction and authority to the Government of India on January 01,1948, on which dated the provincial Govt. took over the administration.

Districts of Orissa
This newly established District is part of the Dhenkanal District. This newly born distict came into existence on April 1, 1993. Angul, a centrally located District in the State of Orissa. The district covers a geographical area of 6232 square kilometers and supports a population of about 11.40 lakhs.
Malkangiri District :
One of the most beautiful district of Orissa. Earlier this district is the part of Koraput district. It is earlier as the one of the sub division of Koraput district. This newly formed district is full of natural resources. This district cover the total area i.e. 6,190Sq.Km. On 2nd October 1992, it is declared to be a new districtg of Orissa. This district is full of tribal peoples like Bondas, Koyas, Porajas, and other tribal castes. This Malkangiri district is having one sub division i.e. Malkangiri with five administrative blocks. They are Malkangiri, Mathili, Kudumulgumma (K.Gumma), Podia, Kalimela, Khairput and Korukonda. Some of the important places to visit are Malkangiri, Balimela, Chitra Konda, Motu, Khairput, Mathili and many more. Mathili is famous for its great freedom fighter "Mr. Lakshman Naik".
Balasore District :
This Balasore district is famous all over Orissa for its beautiful mountains, nature beauty, golden beaches and famous temples. The total area of this beautiful district is 3076 Sq.Km. The Balasore city is the district headquarters. Some of the major tourist attraction places of Balasore make this district one of the famous tourist spot of Orissa. Some of the famous tourist attractions of the district i.e. Biranchi Narayan temple, Khirachora Gopinath temple, Panchalingeswar temple, Chandipur sea beach, Shunya Mandap and many more. Baragarh District :
Baragarh is One of the 30 district of Orissa. This newly declared district came in to existence as a district from 1st April 1993. The district has an area of 5837 Sq.Kms. The city of Baragarh is the district headquarters. Hirakud Dam offers irrigation facilities to the farmer alongwith Mahanadi River. Dhanuyatra is the famous festival celebrated for 10 days with other cultural program also. It is also famous for centuries old handloom industry manufacturing a trade-mark textile form called Sambalpuri sarees.
